Upper School Personal / Social and College Counselor

This position is a split Personal / Social Counselor and College Counselor. He/she will be adding to the US Counseling team, consisting of:


1 PSE counselor


2 College counselors


1 PSE/College counselor


2 Nurses (each part time)


 


Requirements:



  • Minimum 5 years experience in college counseling in an inclusive (open academic admissions) International School

  • Minimum 5 years experience in personal/social/emotional counseling in an inclusive International School

  • Certification in school counseling

  • Strong knowledge of the IB Diploma and AP academic pathways

  • Strong knowledge of UK, US and European university admission requirements

  • Highly effective communicator with parents, students, teachers, administrators, admissions officers


Job Specification (alongside existing team members)


 


The Personal / Social Counseling duties for this position will include:



  • Providing a safe, confidential counseling environment conducive to students sharing their needs and concerns

  • Individual personal and academic counseling for students and parents

  • Delivering counseling lessons in classrooms and grade level groups

  • Liaising with Grade Level Leaders on student needs

  • Designing and delivering orientation and transition events for students

  • Working as part of an SST team to identify and support students

  • Referring students to outside specialists as necessary; liaising with outside specialists where needed

  • Creating and maintaining appropriate notes and records

  • Creating and delivering PD for ZIS faculty as necessary


College Counseling duties:



  • Academic pathway guidance for students and parents individually, in groups and at student/parent evenings

  • Generating transcripts and completing course changes using PowerSchool

  • Monitoring graduation credit status

  • Organizing and conducting university meetings and information evenings

  • Hosting visits by university representatives

  • Networking and representing ZIS to universities around the world

  • Writing effective counselor recommendations for students and completing supporting documents required for university applications

  • Helping to facilitate faculty recommendation letters
