We are seeking to recruit an experienced research/mouse technician to work in the laboratory of Prof. Ataman Sendoel at the Institute for Regenerative Medicine, at the University of Zurich. Our laboratory carries out interdisciplinary research at the interface between cancer biology, stem cell biology and regulation of protein synthesis. The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing the experiments on traditional and genetically modified mice, with a particular focus on performing ultrasound-guided in utero lentiviral injections in mouse embryos and provide technical support for projects running in the laboratory. We offer a very interesting position in a young, interdisciplinary team, continuous training and flexible hours.
Responsibilities:
- Independently and efficiently organize experiments on traditional and genetically modified mice (management of colonies, manage breeding, genotyping, plug checks etc)
- Learn and perform ultrasound-guided in utero lentiviral injections into E 9.5 mice, which is one of the main techniques in the lab and is a very powerful method to carry out large-scale screens and functional genomics.
- Assist in projects in the laboratory and apply molecular biology methods (PCR, RNA preparation, cloning, western blot, histology, immunofluorescence and luciferase assays) as well as basic cell culture work.
- Assist in managing a functional laboratory (inventory control of consumables, small material order, etc), create and manage databases, maintenance of equipment and different tools.

- Qualification as BTA/MTA or MSc in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or any other relevant discipline
- Licence to work with mice (LTK1), with a few years of relevant experience in the management and breeding of traditional and transgenic rodents
- Animal surgery experience would be desired
- Ability to draft routine reports and keep accurate records of work performed. Aptitude to collaborate in an interdisciplinary and multinational environment
- Fluency in English (oral/written) and good computer skills.
- Willingness to learn new techniques and tools with general instruction, is self-motivated, organized, manages priorities, enjoys working in a team
- Reliability and precision
Fluency in English (oral/written) required, German is not mandatory.
Since the main responsibility will be the organisation and execution of the lentiviral injections for the lab, experience in mouse surgery is highly desired.
