As Head of Strategy in Global Operations, you will work closely with the Head of Global Operations (GO) on strategic topics as well as you will provide leadership and direction on major operational projects. The GO Strategy team is the primary contributor to the Global Operations strategy ensuring that objectives, KPI’s, major cross-site initiatives, and responsibilities position the global function for short, mid and long-term success.


The scope includes: Strategy development and Intelligence, capacity planning and management, process efficiency and digital strategy/projects, cross-site and cross function project leadership, and Global Operations IT landscape and implementation.


Significant focus on process efficiency and digital efforts of the entire global function ensuring that the right investments are occurring at the right time and the right location taking a long term view. Overall responsibility to lead complex projects, including the identification, funding, justification, design, implementation, delivery and achievement of expected results based on best in class benchmarks. Support for M&A, Divisional and Group initiatives as required.


As Head of Strategy, Global Operations you will be responsible for:


Strategy development and Intelligence:



  • Developing and delivering a comprehensive strategic long-term agenda for Global Operations: lead the development of the overall Operations strategic plan together with the Head of Global Operations working in close collaboration with the Global Operations Leadership Team

  • Develop, define, and implement a meaningful set of KPI’s that align with the overall strategy and ensure consistency across the entire enterprise and aid in the identification of major global initiatives that cross multiple sites and ensure that the most impactful programs are identified, implemented, and sustainable performance delivered


Operational projects:



  • Ensure the establishment and applicability of capabilities which support the development and deployment of an asset strategy



  • Develop and continuously update a fact base to assess current and future asset utilization & technical capabilities

  • Facilitate strategic network and capacity investment decisions through a global Long Range Planning process (being the BPO) and ensure translation of current and future revenue & volume projections and manufacturing strategies into mid-to-long term (5-10 years) demand and capacity expectations, and related what-if scenario analyses

  • Develop Operations Master Plans: Define a concept for operations master plans, create a common understanding and get endorsement and commitment from stakeholders for implementation

  • Governance: Establish and maintain the GO Guidelines ensuring all areas of the network accomplish critical processes in a consistent manner and work with GOLT colleagues to ensure processes are maintained and refreshed as needed

  • GO IT: act as the business process owner for all Global Operations related IT projects, planning the strategy versus the requirements and ensuring successful implementation of those global IT projects associated with operations

  • Business Continuity: Be the Lead for BCM activities in GO, support Group BCM activities in DIA, establish BCM product list, ensure BCM plans are maintained and support GOLT members’ setup and prepare for table-top exercises


To be successful in this role you fulfil the following criteria:



  • Advanced technical degree in Engineering, physical sciences, or related technical discipline with an MBA preferred and seven years’ work experience in the Diagnostics or Pharmaceutical Industry (e.g. Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Regulatory, or Business Development)

  • Ability to think strategically and systemically, analyze complex business issues and opportunities, and utilize sound judgment in establishing the appropriate objectives and direction

  • Solid organization and project management skills to ensure flawless execution of transition plans and excellent stakeholder management skills

  • Solid understanding of manufacturing operations to facilitate the development of credible plans and establish credibility

  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to get things done through task teams composed of members with direct and indirect reporting relations

  • Ability to build bridges across geographical, cultural and functional boundaries to enhance collaboration, including the strong interpersonal skills to successfully perform in a complex global matrix environment

  • Demonstrated track record of results, leadership and change management and a proven history of driving significant change in a short period of time in a positive and non-disruptive manner

  • Proven track record of consensus building and conflict management in challenging situations

  • Executive presence including confidence, performing well under pressure and decisiveness

  • Strong business acumen with solid knowledge of operational accounting and finance
