What we do
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.
Reports to (role)
There are three positions available in 2019. Each Associate reports to the lead advisor in the Protection of the Civilian Population (PCP) Unit and also works with the Head and Deputy of the Unit.
Purpose
The Associates will contribute to the work of the Protection of the Civilian Population Unit, which sets the methodology for enhancing the protections of the civilian population in armed conflict or violence, and provides expertise as a pool of specialists within the Central Tracing Agency and Protection Division.

Professional Experience required
As per the ICRC rules for Associates, there is a limitation on past work experience to be applicable on this type of position. You should have a maximum of one year prior work experience following your lastest degree (2 years if it is supplemented with traineeships).
The PCP unit is interested in individuals who have some experience with an international organization or an NGO (particularly working on issues related to protection of civilian population in the conduct of hostilities, community-based programming, internal displacement, child protection, migration, gender and diversity, or sexual violence).
