We are looking for a passionate project manager. The successful candidate will acquire, coordinate and implement projects at ecoinvent, mainly in collaboration with partners, clients and key stakeholders. You will be working with a variety of partners, clients and internal staff, and represent ecoinvent to stakeholders.


 


About ecoinvent


ecoinvent is the world's most consistent and transparent life cycle inventory (LCI) database used in environmental assessments such as carbon footprinting and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), as well as in Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and other methods. The database is an information source for sustainability experts, product designers, policy-makers, researchers and others. It is sold and used worldwide, with over 7500 licences provided to businesses, consultants, academics and public entities, and many tens of thousands of users. ecoinvent is a not-for-profit association whose mission is to increase the availability of data for sustainability assessments around the globe, with funding coming mainly from licence sales of the database and related activities. With more than a dozen employees and located in central Zurich, ecoinvent offers a great work environment for someone looking to work on an innovative and meaningful challenge.


 


What the job involves


The ecoinvent database is maintained and updated both internally and in collaboration with a multitude of stakeholders, including industrial and governmental ones. Furthermore, ecoinvent provides data products and services to a variety of clients, from corporations to national and multinational policy-makers. As project manager, you will work with such clients and partners to shape and implement solutions that both fulfil stakeholder needs and further ecoinvent’s path towards its mission as a not-for-profit organization, with the assistance of our internal technical and support staff. You will also lead the project acquisition for such data or service projects, and you will help shape the portfolio of data and service products that ecoinvent offers.


The focus of the position will be on providing tailored solutions to key stakeholders and clients. This position is advertised in parallel to a second project manager position with a specialized, technical focus; we ask applicants to please specify which position(s) they are applying for.

You will deepen your understanding of our complex database and gain experience as a leading expert on Life Cycle Inventories as well as their applications in a variety of use cases. You will work closely with sustainability, data and IT experts at ecoinvent to provide specialized solutions and support to clients and key stakeholders, and manage these relationships. You will be involved in the decision-making process in ecoinvent’s funding and commercial aspects, helping us generate the support we need to work towards our mission. What we expect from you


Qualifications & Experience


As an ideal candidate you have either a university-level degree in environmental sciences, a natural science or a related field; alternatively, you have a similar degree in a business-related field and significant technical understanding of the sustainability sector. You must have several years of experience working in the field of sustainability and/or LCA, and you have significant work experience with data aspects in sustainability. Practical experience with the ecoinvent database is a strong asset. You have extensive experience in managing projects and relationships with both clients or external stakeholders. You are skilled at defining, tracking and reporting progress both internally and to clients and stakeholders. An excellent command of English (both written and oral) is a must. Fluency in German is a very strong asset with other language skills being advantageous.

As an ideal candidate, you are pro-active, structured and well-organized. You have excellent communication and presentation skills, and you can think and communicate in both technical and business-oriented environments. You can work with and coordinate the efforts of collaborators of mixed backgrounds. You can supervise and implement a project from beginning to end, manage problems successfully and report on progress efficiently. You are comfortable managing several, diverse projects at the same time. You can integrate client and stakeholder needs efficiently and work well with inflexible deadlines. Finally, you enjoy working in a diverse and international team, are an interested learner and can pick up new concepts quickly.

The successful candidate will coordinate and implement projects for the improvement, expansion, update and development of the ecoinvent database. You will be working with partners and internal staff, and represent ecoinvent to key stakeholders.

As the world changes, the data need to be kept up to date with regards to current technology as well as evolving user needs. ecoinvent regularly carries out projects both internally and with partners for data provision, to improve the quality and offering of the database, as well as to support users in its application, both through documentation and technical developments. As project manager, you will work with the senior management and stakeholders to define needs, develop solutions and then implement them in collaboration with internal and external partners. The focus of the position will be the content and technical structure of the database. This position is advertised in parallel to a second project manager position with a more general focus; we ask applicants to please specify which position(s) they are applying for.

What we expect from you
