The Research Unit Forest Health and Biotic Interactions studies forest pests and diseases and develops scientific bases for control measures. In the framework of our research on mycovirus-mediated biological control of fungal pathogens, we offer a two-year position starting on March 1, 2019 (or upon agreement) as a

PostDoc in Fungal Virology / Phytopathology (80% - 100%)

You will investigate the dynamics of virus infection in the Cryphonectria parasitica-hypovirus pathosystem, which provides the basis for biological control of chestnut blight, by conducting laboratory and field experiments. You will use next generation sequencing methods to detect mycoviruses in forest pathogens and analyse their genetic diversity within individual host and host populations. You will intensively collaborate with our international project partners and publish your results in scientific journals.


You hold a PhD degree in Plant Pathology, Virology or related fields with experience in next generation sequencing, bioinformatics, and population genetics. Basic knowledge in fungal genetics and mycology is favorable. You are fluent in English and have excellent skills in scientific writing. You are ambitious, highly motivated and like being part of an international research team.
