Abbott Established Pharmaceutical Division (EPD) is looking for an

Manager Operational Excellence (OPEX) / Business Excellence

at the global EPD Headquarter in Basel - Allschwil.

You will report to the Head Global Business Excellence of Abbott EPD and are responsible to give Inputs to strategic, global business excellence strategies and initiatives across operations

You work with the EPD Global Operations, to provide direction and hands-on support to the Regional / local Business Excellence resources across EPD on the design and implementation of improvements.

This includes a larger amount of travel to the different sites.

Main Responsibilities

• Manages aspects of large scale and complex projects within Business Excellence (BEX) and Operational Excellence (OPEX) from start to finish, so that they are completed on time and within budget.


• Develops, prioritizes and submits project plans, budgets and methodologies across a range of key projects.


• Drive Margin & Profitability & OpEx workstreams governance and support the implementation of Business Excellence governance


• Coordinate effective and efficient management of Operational / Business Excellence knowledge, tools and standards, e.g the Abbott EPD “production system”


• Engage with Business Executives, Teams and Operations Leaders in the regions, to drive the consistent deployment of key knowledge and tools across the sites


• Support the creation of a Business Excellence Community, to enable good practice sharing and form a continuous improvement network

Scope of the Role

• The position is partly responsible for Division wide process improvement projects and goals, collaborating with the Regionally based BEX teams and resources to drive initiatives.


• The role requires well developed leadership and project management capabilities with demonstrated success completing core-business, cross-cultural projects with a focus on Emerging Markets.


• The role is key to deliver strategic lean / business excellence initiatives and effective change management.


• The role works in partnership with business leaders across EPD functions and with personnel from outside companies/vendors/consultants as needed in supporting business needs.


• Collaborate with regions and sites to enable high quality execution and implementation of improvement initiatives

The position has a direct impact on the ability of the organization to meet short and long range objectives for profitability, quality, and customer satisfaction across all functions within Global Manufacturing.

The position will not have Direct or Indirect Reports in the short term.

Your profile

• Minimum BA or equivalent experience required; Master or MBA preferred in a relevant field (e.g. Engineering, Science, Business Management)




• 5+ years of OPEX Implementation Experience or within comparable optimization projects and programs



• Hands-on experience applying lean manufacturing and advanced planning and control methods to drive change in large organizations.



• Strong project management and communication skills



• Proven capability to manage change management programs.  


• Highly developed facilitation and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to resolve conflicts and develop win-win relationships with regional sites and with other organizations in EPD.


• Ability to interpret division strategy and develop programs and projects in support of that strategy which address challenges holistically.


• Analytical skills to identify root-causes for problems based on data and to highlight gaps compared to defined standards.


• Excellent English skills, any further languages highly beneficial, for example Spanish, Portuguese or Russian
