The mission of WHO's Health Emergencies Programme (The Programme) is to build the capacity of Member States to manage health emergency risks and, when national capacities are overwhelmed, to lead and coordinate the international health response to contain outbreaks and to provide effective relief and recovery to affected populations.
The Department of Infectious Hazard Management (IHM) supports countries in prevention and control of high threat diseases of pandemic & epidemic potential through forecasting, characterization of diseases /infectious risks and development of evidence-based strategies to manage infectious hazards.
The Unit of High Threat Pathogens (PAT) develops strategies, guidance, global mechanisms and interventions to address high threat pathogens responsible for epidemics or pandemics thereby reducing their impact on affected populations and limiting their international spread. This group deals with known high threat pathogens such as influenza, Ebola and other viral haemorrhagic fevers (VHF), Zika, Chikungunya, cholera, yellow fever, coronaviruses like the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), meningitis and plague.
Within the framework of the delegated authority, the incumbent is assigned all or part of the following responsibilities:
1. Provide support to the organization and management of activities of the Global Task Force forCholera Control (GTFCC).
2. Coordinate with institutions and experts for the creation, organization and maintenance of the GTFCC working groups. Identify internal colleagues and external partner institutions and expertise to collaborate on the work of the working groups. Establish composition, and conduct monitor and evaluation oftimelines for each working group.
3. Provide input and ensure the coordination meetings and tele/video conferences on epidemics of vulnerable settings and other related issues.
4. Prepare technical background documentation .Monitor progress of activities of each workinggroup. Organize the presentation of outcomes during GTFCC meetings. Ensure follow up of the meetings recommendations.
5. Communicate on all GTFCC related activities. Publish the GTFCC newsletter. 6. Maintain and update the GTFCC website. Identify needs for additional communication needs and take follow-up action.
7. Perform other related duties including replacing and backstopping duties as assigned.
Essential : At least 5 years' experience in the management of public health projects at the international level; experience in the coordination of multiple technical partners/agencies; proven experience in writing reports and technical documents; proven experience in the organization of meetings and events.
Desirable : WHO experience to have knowledge of its mandate, goals and practices, including the coordination of multiple internal and external partners.
