Introduction

Applications are invited for a PhD position funded in part by the Jacobs Foundation in the group of Prof. Alexandre Reymond, at the Center for Integrative Genomics, University of Lausanne, to work on the genetic variation in human population and the effects of genome architecture on developmental and health traits.

Expected start date of position: March 1, 2019 or to be agreed


Contract length: 1 year, renewable 2 times 2 years, maximum 5 years


Activity rate: 100 % (85% research thesis work + 15% teaching)


Workplace: University of Lausanne, Campus Dorigny


Your responsibilities


The successful candidate will primarily combine state-of-the-art analytical tools for population and medical genetics to unravel genetic associations of human developmental and disease traits. This will be complemented by molecular and cellular techniques, as well as in vivo modeling approaches for functional validation and dissection of genetic variants. He/she will have ample opportunities to learn various computational and experimental techniques established in the lab.


Your qualifications


MSc in life, medical or computer science


Good self-management skills, oriented to problem solving, team player.


Fluency in English (oral and written).


Aptitude for scientific research and highly motivated


Desired qualifications


Good knowledge in medical or population genetics.


Previous experience in statistics and data analysis.


At least basic programming skills (preferentially R, python).


Previous experience with cellular or animal models is an asset.


What the position offers you


The Reymond lab (www.unil.ch/cig/en/home/menuinst/research/prof-reymond.html) is hosted at the Center for Integrative Genomics (CIG), in the Genopode building of the University of Lausanne (UNIL), a vibrant well-funded Institute with a focus on functional genomics and benefiting with modern core facilities (see www.unil.ch/cig). It is embedded in the broader Lausanne research environment that includes two universities (UNIL, EPFL), the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, Ludwig Center for Cancer Research, University Hospital, and a cluster of biotech companies flourishing in the larger lake Geneva area. It shares the building with the Department of Computational Biology.
