R&D activities to expand and accelerate access to new diagnostic technologies, and to
build global diagnostic testing capacity for poverty-related diseases in low- and middle-
income countries. FIND’s vision is a world where diagnosis guides the way to health for
all people. The FIND team is devoted to driving the development, clinical trialing, and
early implementation of innovative diagnostic solutions that can have a high impact on
patient care and disease control in low-resource settings. The diseases we have been
working on include tuberculosis, malaria and fever, hepatitis C, several neglected tropical
diseases, AMR and epidemic preparedness.
As the Head of Diagnostics Innovation, you will work closely with the CSO and disease
programme heads on product development and technology assessment, lead FIND’s
technology portfolio, scouting and partner selection activities supporting various teams.
This role is an essential part of FIND’s R&D team, cross-cutting across all disease
programmes and will serve as the center point between FIND’s technology needs and
disease programme priorities. The role will also liaise with Access programmes to ensure
the strategic and long-term vision for connected diagnostics is supported.
Lead emerging technology assessment and/or selection to keep FIND at the
forefront of technology innovations
Analyze the current FIND project/technology portfolio and make strategic
recommendations to optimize alignment with the FIND strategy
Development/support of an internal knowledge management database to leverage
previous and current tech assessment work
Perform landscape analysis in the area of next generation diagnostics platforms
(including NGS) to identify the most promising and relevant technologies
Publish and manage RFPs driven by disease programme needs and timelines
Partner assessment, due-diligence and technology selection supporting the
programmes
Generate summary of assessments for management and SAC approval
Oversee and manage strategic projects and ensure progress towards pre-
determined timelines, milestones and goals
Develop and implement strategies that drive FIND forward in the innovation space;
this can include technology innovations, business model innovations or
access/delivery related aspects and internal as well as external activities.
Internal resource and advisor for FIND programme staff in the area of compliant
IVD design, development and manufacturing, as required
Writing and supporting the writing of publications and scientific presentations
Actively participate in the preparation, writing and submission of grant proposals
Working with partners on diverse projects and establish/maintain links with
academic institutions, industry partners and other institutions (incl. travel for
meetings with partners, conventions and conferences)
Strong sense of ownership and drive
Strong organizational skills
Strong software skills (Microsoft Office, project management and statistical
packages)
Strong analytical skills and ability to think strategically in a global context
Ability to interact with and lead people and teams at all levels of FIND, across
various functions, and across organizations
Self-motivated and able to manage multiple projects concurrently, with minimal
supervision
Strong written and verbal communication skills (e.g. grants, manuscripts,
presentations)
Masters or PhD or equivalent in a relevant scientific background with 10+ years of
relevant regulated IVD experience (ISO 13485, 21CFR Part 820)
Strong understanding of quality systems requirements
Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask across
multiple projects
Experience in IVD product design, development, manufacturing and
commercialization in a regulated environment
Experience in IVD product regulations and country specific registration
requirements
Expertise in both immunodiagnostics and molecular diagnostics, including
sequencing
Strong understanding of infectious diseases
Strong background in all aspects of business development including due diligence
Strong scientific background with a track record of publications
Experience in technology assessments, landscapes
A network in the IVD diagnostic industry
Fluent in English (verbal and written), other languages would be an asset
Experience in bioinformatics and next generation sequencing analysis software
Experience in the development of detailed business plans
Knowledge of healthcare systems in low and middle income countries
