Web backend engineer (Ruby, JS) – 100% (f/m)

We’re creating the first backend platform to enable powerbank sharing in Europe. We’ve successfully deployed a (git) branch of this platform all over Switzerland. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to bring this platform to the next level with us.

Remember this time when you were on your way to your favorite tech meetup (or bar) and ran out of battery? Then, maybe you’ve heard of us already. We are Chimpy, the green powerbank sharing system in Switzerland.

Over the next few years, we want to establish ourselves as the leading brand for instant battery in several countries. For this to become a reality, we need a chimera to join our hacker team, to make the system run better, faster and in some new challenging ways.

The mission we offer you:

• Think, design and develop backend changes to support new business needs. This includes working on existing backend services & data stores but also building new ones from scratch


• Actively participate in scaling our backend system. This involves a planned transition to micro-services & event sourcing


• Work closely with our CTO (Sag) on architectural decisions. This includes challenging existing architecture and design, taking time to learn new paradigms and implement these ideas in a real-world system
  

That’s the core of the mission. Now, depending on the taste and appetite of the chimera hacker, it can be adapted. Have a side crush for beautiful interfaces? Like to play with data? Already had a dream about serverless computing or functional programming?

The chimera hacker we’re looking for:

Here’s our current technological stack:

• Backend services: Ruby / Rails and JS / Node


• Frontend services: JS / React, JS / React Native (iOS / Android)


• DevOps: GitHub, circleCI, Heroku, AWS


• Main third party services: Auth0, Stripe, Mandrill

Thus, naturally, you should have a bit of the following:

• Acceptable experience in building web backend services. Preferably but not necessarily in Ruby / Rails or JS / Node


• Experience or interest in one or many of the following backend challenges: distributed architecture, cloud computing, micro-services, data streams, event sourcing


• A pro-active and can-do attitude, even if some of the challenges to face are completely new
