Advanced Accelerator Applications is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).Job DescriptionThe Global Head of Clinical Development (GHCD) has a key organizational role, accountable for the clinical/medical strategy and execution across the entire portfolio and all phases of clinical development (Phase I – III). The GHCD builds and leads the Global Clinical Development function to deliver best in class clinical development. The GHCD is the operational and functional manager of the Clinical Development Medical Directors, Medical and Clinical Scientists, and Global Clinical Leaders. As a member of the R&D leadership team, the GHCD contributes to setting the strategic direction and objectives for Research and Development. The GHCD may deputize for the Head of Research and Development for certain leadership functions and senior management meetings.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Accountable to build and lead the Global Clinical Development function to deliver best in class clinical development
Accountable for identifying and developing medical and scientific talent
− Drive talent acquisition of medical and clinical scientists
− Actively coach to build and implement individual development plans and conduct performance appraisal discussions
Accountable for short and long range portfolio and disease area vision and strategy, in alignment with the overall AAA strategy
− Maintain a close collaboration with groups outside of Development including Medical Affairs and Marketing
− Identify and provide mitigation strategies at a high level of sophistication for issues identified in programs/portfolio and indications under study
− Anticipate internal and external drivers of changes to strategy, and respond by making well judged and rapid revisions to clinical/portfolio strategy
Accountable for Clinical Exellence across the portfolio
− Ensure rigorous adherence to quality and compliance
− Development methodology for programs with new indications or new disease areas
− Dose selection strategy for first-in-human studies
− Biomarker development and selection for early and late stage (Phase I-III) programs
Accountable for high quality, timely and cost-efficient execution of the clinical development programs
− In close alignment with the Head of Clinical Development Operations and other R&D Leadership team members, drive the operational execution of the clinical development plans
− Actively monitor the portfolio, identify risks and implement preventive and corrective actions as indicated
Lead special strategic projects as needed under sponsorship of the Global Head of R&D
Provide medical input into Business Development & Licensing asseessments
Contribute to the AAA and Novartis development organizations
− Presentation at the R&D Leadership team, the AAA Portfolio Board and senior Novartis Boards, review of projects, exchange of best practices with other teams, and contributing experience as needed to the broader organizationMinimum requirementsMD or equivalent required; relevant clinical specialty or subspecialty training preferred
Operational oncology development experience mandatory
Min 7 years of drug development or clinical research experience
Proven track record of Medical/Clinical leadership and personnel management
Clinical background relevant to the Portfolio
Medical Training or Experience on Program Teams is preferred
