“Small Molecules Technical Development” (PTDC) brings a broad range of experience across drug substance (DS), drug product (DP), analytical sciences and manufacturing S&T, and collaborates closely with key partners in the departments Research and Early Development (pRED / gRED), Small Molecules (PTC) and PTD. PTDC is responsible for late stage technical development of our small molecules pipeline, manufacture of DS and DP for clinical studies and Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) across our small molecules manufacturing network.


Continuous drug product manufacturing is a maturing technology platform (4 products FDA approved) which has the potential to improve productivity, reduce development time to market and increase agility in commercial supply. Other than for batch processing, a CM process requires a holistic control strategy with integrated real time controls in order to demonstrate the process and product quality is in a state of control.


As PostDoc “Continuous Drug Product & Control Strategy” you will focus on processing and analytical aspects in view of developing an integrated control strategy for a continuous manufacturing of Roche small molecule drug products.


Main responsibilities are:



  • Assessment of continuous feeders and dedicated blenders for continuous drug product manufacturing

  • Understand impact of raw material attributes on feeder performance and overcome challenges with low feed rates

  • Determination of RTD (residence time distribution)

  • Evaluation of PAT technologies and building chemometric models to predict critical quality attributes (e.g. blend uniformity, tablet CU)

  • Integration of PAT with equipment data in view of developing advanced process controls for a continuous process


Your Profile


The PostDoc project will encompass hands-on experimentation with continuous manufacturing line and PAT technologies in the team or independently.


For this position, you will hold a PhD in Natural Science or Engineering.


Furthermore you have the following skills and qualifications:



  • Expertise in spectroscopy (e.g. NIR, Raman) and analytical techniques for on-line process monitoring

  • Expertise with multivariate data analyses and/or chemometric expertise

  • Expertise with Continuous Manufacturing and/or drug product manufacturing processes

  • Experienced with Design of Experiments

  • Good team working skills and a “can do” attitude

  • Excellent communication skills in English, German is of help
