Med-Tech Engineer ETH/FH

You will be working in a team that is responsible for the development of life-supporting medical devices that are based on magnetic levitation technology. In this highly regulated field, all aspects of the product life cycle have to be managed.

Main Responsibilities

Your responsibilities are to design and coordinate the development of products from concept through pilot production. This position is responsible for program development activities including customer interface, prototype development & test/analysis, project planning, interdepartmental coordination and production implementation activities.  The following activities will be part of your job:

• Participate with the product development team consisting of individuals from various departments and outside services/vendors in the concept, design and testing of products


• Understand pertinent medical/surgical procedures to enable conversion of user needs to product performance requirements/specifications


• Participate in the technical support activities of design/drafting, lab testing, protocol preparation and analysis, and documentation to support historical records, regulatory and patent submissions


• Apply engineering principles, theories and concepts to the development of new products


• Evaluate device performance and safety considerations using bench and field testing and maintain appropriate records


• Manage product development activities in conformance with Thoratec corporate and regulatory requirements


• Assess and propose program equipment needs and alternatives to Management


• Assist in the planning of project schedules and implement control of activities according to schedule


• Assist in budget planning and management


• Establish effective lines of communication and feedback with Manufacturing Management, Quality Control, Manufacturing and R&D Engineers to ensure prompt attention and resolution of conditions that adversely affect quality or reliability


• As the technical expert, analyze, identify causes and initiate corrective action regarding customer complaints, internal and field failures

The profile

• MS in Engineering (ETH/FH) or equivalent knowledge, specialized in Mechatronic


• Up to 5 years experience in the design and development of mechatronic devices


• Good written and oral communication skills in English and German to communicate with both technical and business management personnel as well as customers


• Familiarity with and basic understanding of the regulatory and quality system requirements


• You are highly motivated, autonomous and like to take on responsibilities


• You are technically creative and are a great Teamplayer
