Systems Administrators embrace Google's motto to ensure millions of users can access the world's information without a glitch. As a Unix System and Applications Administrator at Google, you own and support the needs of one of Google's server infrastructure systems. You're highly technical and work directly with other server and service owners to ensure reliability and sustainability of the Google service infrastructure as well as compliance with internal policies. Success in this role means you are able to support servers in a mixed operating system environment and work efficiently with our internal technology providers as well as other operations groups. Googlers rely on your guidance when it comes to design decisions so you'll have a direct impact in keeping the business productive.


As a Unix System and Applications Administrator, you will provide support and resolve customer cases related to the delivery of Google services. You will also provide technical assistance and remote troubleshooting support as part of a global 24/7 support organization. In this role you will also work closely with engineers, product managers, and partners to deploy, maintain and support the solution.

Responsibilities


  • Provide support and resolve customer cases for the product in installation, system configuration, network setup and diagnosis.

  • Provide technical assistance and remote troubleshooting support as part of a global 24-7 support organization.

  • Work closely with engineers, product managers, and partners.

  • Work in a fast paced environment while insuring uptime and availability of Google's products.


Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:



  • BSc degree in Computer Science or related technical degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience implementing, troubleshooting, and supporting Linux/Unix operating system, Internet-based applications and web servers.


Preferred qualifications:



  • Demonstrated work/industry experience in technical support, professional services, engineering, or systems engineering

  • Strong Linux/Unix System Administration skills with understanding of network administration.

  • Familiarity with programming/scripting (Python, Go, Perl, shell).

  • Outstanding partner management, follow-through and problem solving skills, resourcefulness, attention to detail.

  • Troubleshooting skills with routing protocols such as BGP.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
