PhD or MD-PhD position in Human Genetics at the Department of Endocrinology (CHUV - Lausanne)

The position advertise for a doctoral candidate (PhD or MD-PhD student – 100%) in the field of human reproduction and endocrinology, and is linked to a project funded by the Swiss National Fund for Scientific Research (SNSF).

Context

The Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) is one of the 5 Swiss university hospitals. Through its collaboration with the University of Lausanne - Faculty of Biology and Medicine and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), the CHUV plays a leading role in the fields of medical care, medical research and training.

Mission

The candidate will work on projects aiming to determine the neuroendocrine basis of human reproduction by combining clinical data, human genetics, bioinformatics with molecular biology approaches and animal models.

The discovery of new genes involved in congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (CHH) may allow for a better genotype-phenotype correlation, as well as an improvement in genetic counseling. Mutations present in new genes identified by this project will increase our understanding of neuro-endocrine control of reproduction with potential applications to a broader spectrum of fertility pathologies.

Through the doctoral thesis, the candidate will develop a variety of bioinformatic and genetic applications to high-throughput sequencing data (e.g. whole genome, RNA-seq., etc.) to discover new genes and/or pathways involved in the pathogenesis of congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. If the candidate is an MD, he will also be involved with the phenotyping of CHH patients.

Candidate profile

- A Master’s degree in biology, life sciences or Master in medicine is required.

- A previous experience in genetic analysis using advanced bioinformatics tools and statistics is preferred.

- The desire, motivation and ability to work as part of a collaborative team dedicated to researching the neuroendocrine basis of reproduction in an excellent international setting.

Benefits

Employment at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois, with the accompanying benefits of:

- First-rate social benefits
