What we do


 


The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.


Purpose


 


A new Institutional Strategy and Information Environment Strategy have been adopted, bringing the ICRC into a new level of digital transformation. To help in the concrete implementation, the ICRC is opening a position of Associate that will focus on information management and communication, as key to ensure relevant decision and policy making in our endeavor to protect and assist affected people.



The role of the post holder will be:



  • To assist the Direction of Communication and Information Management Departement in defining, promoting and implementing the information environment strategy of the ICRC

  • To support the CIO/Deputy Director on its role (incl. Global IT system, Project Management Office)

  • To assist the Archives and Information Management Division in key areas related to information management


Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities


 


The post holder will assist the CIO/Deputy Director with the following files:
 



  • Implementation of the information environment strategy and roadmap

  • Strategies, partnership and innovation related to information systems

  • Design thinking/Agile methodology/User centered design


 


The post holder will assist the Head of Archives and Information Management as well as the Head of the Information Management Unit in the following projects:
 



  • Access to information policy, its implementation and promotion

  • The digital workplace

  • Promotion and learning tools on information management (including security awareness)

  • The drafting of policies/guidelines related to information management as a result of decisions taken by governance mechanism such as the Information Security Board


 


The post holder’s main responsibilities related to the above mentioned files are the following:
 



  • Carry out research and draft synthesis notes

  • Collect needs through various means (including interviews)

  • Contribute to the organization and follow up of internal/external meetings and workshops

  • Collect and organize information

  • Draft reports, messages and minutes of meetings

  • Contribute to presentations, roadmaps and awareness modules


Certifications / Education required


 



  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (Information Management, Information Security or Data Protection) OR degree in a different field (ie. International Affairs, Humanitarian Action, etc.) and demonstrated interest/experience in one or more of the following areas:
     


– Information Management
– Information security, cybersecurity and surveillance
– Project management
– New information technologies


Professional Experience required


 


A maximum of one year of professional experience (or two years if supplemented by traineeships).


 


 


Desired profile and skills


 



  • Excellent written and spoken English and French

  • Excellent organization skills, ability to take initiatives and work autonomously

  • Ability to quickly understand complex organisational issues

  • Flexibility and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

  • Ability to produce powerful documents and presentations and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • Strong computer literacy, familiarity with updating websites/intranet sites, Windows, Lotus Notes, SharePoint and various software programs (Excel, Power Point).

  • Interest in humanitarian concerns and international relations

  • Understanding of the mandate and modus operandi of the ICRC
