Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science, ETH Zurich, Switzerland and Dr. Eugene Rozanov at the
PMOD/WRC, Davos, Switzerland.PhD position in ozone layer modeling
The research project “Past and future of the Ozone Layer Evolution (POLE)” is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. The main objective of this project is to understand the past behavior and to predict the future evolution of the ozone layer. The PhD student will apply a stateof- the-art Earth system model with interactive chemistry and sulfate aerosol microphysics to simulate past and future ozone layer evolution. The PhD student will also analyze the results, and compare them with observations.
The candidate should have a Master or Diploma degree in physics, chemistry, mathematics, or environmental sciences. The candidate should further have deep interest in the modeling of physical/chemical processes in the atmosphere at all scales or some experience in numerical modeling. Good knowledge of mathematics, FORTRAN language, Unix Shell-scripting, IDL or other visualization packages are advantageous. Fluency in English is essential.

The position should be filled by January 2019. The PhD project duration is three years with possible one year extension. The doctorate will be obtained from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich. The title of the doctorate will be Dr. sc. ETH.
