Summer Trainee Engineering Program, STEP 2019

This internship is intended for students in their first or second year of an accredited full-time degree program in Computer Science or related technical fields, with an anticipated graduation date between 2021 and 2023, depending on their program and unique circumstances.


For students graduating in 2019 and 2020, we encourage you to apply to the Software Engineering/Site Reliability Internship.

Google is invested in increasing the number of future computer scientists and software developers, particularly those who are historically underrepresented in the field. Many aspiring computer scientists could benefit from a program that bridges the gap between academic study and a professional internship; Google wants to inspire students to continue in the field with such a program.


The 2019 Summer Trainee Engineering Program (STEP) internship aims to do just that. The 12 week program offers the opportunity to work on a software project alongside another STEP interns and full-time Googlers and is now is open to qualified first and second-year undergraduate university students who meet the below criteria. We especially encourage applications from students underrepresented in the engineering and tech industry.

Responsibilities


  • Project: Complete a challenging technical project where you'll get to build solutions with a team of Googlers and other STEP interns.

  • Skills-Based Training: Enhance your coding; get exposed to new tools and programming languages and build your professional skills through trainings to help set you up for success.

  • Mentorship: Be matched with a Google engineer, other than your manager, to guide you through your summer experience.

  • Connect: Attend social, community building and networking activities. Build a relationship with your peers.

  • Exposure: Get a unique glimpse into applying your computer science studies in a professional environment.


Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:



  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's in Computer Science or a related technical field.

  • Programming experience in either Java, C++ or Python.

  • Be available from 1st July to 20th September 2019.


Preferred qualifications:



  • Experience in programming outside of your university course.

  • Returning to a Bachelor's degree program with at least two years remaining in academic program after completion of the Summer 2019 internship.

  • Interest and ability to learn other coding languages as needed.
