Learning Support Teacher (Academic Coaching)

For our Secondary School, we are seeking to employ a


Learning Support Teacher (Academic Coaching)


(maternity leave replacement from January to 31 May 2019)


The appointee will work collaboratively with teachers and other colleagues to support secondary school students within the academic coaching programme. He or she will proactively support students with a range of specific learning needs in meeting their academic potential.


Main responsibilities



  • Provide coaching, support, advice and guidance to help students move successfully through their education

  • Assist teaching staff and learners in adapting learning materials and using learning support resources; provide in-class support and organize individual and group coaching sessions

  • Deliver and implement dedicated support through a variety of means to ensure each learner ascertains successful progression

  • Interpret and communicate the contents of psychological and academic tests

  • Develop and maintain Individual Educational Plans (IEP) for students with special needs

  • Help students develop learning, planning, organisation, time management and academic strategies

  • Help students create action plans for the academic year

  • Help students develop social and emotional skills

  • Assess and record attainment and progress of students; report progress to learners, parents and teachers


Qualifications and Qualities Desired



  • A recognized teaching qualification at graduate or postgraduate level

  • Three years teaching experience at secondary school level with the ability to offer in-class support in mathematics and English and humanities

  • An experience of working in a supportive/ coaching role is a strong asset

  • An understanding of specific academic, social, emotional, physical challenges, such as dyslexia, ADHD, autism, would be an advantage

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive and supportive working relationships with young people

  • Adaptability, flexibility, dynamism and a sense of humour

  • Commitment to excellence in education

  • Understanding of and sensitivity to cultural variance

  • Ability to meet high expectations of students, colleagues and a professional parent community

  • Excellent ICT skills and a knowledge of their effective use to support pedagogy

  • Commitment to self-reflection and professional development

  • Swiss or European nationality or valid work permit


Preference will be given to a candidate with work experience in an international environment
