PURPOSE OF POSITION
Viking Cruises is one of the world’s leading cruise line company that manages a fleet of 64 river ships and 5 ocean ships (and growing) with offices across the globe. We have our Marketing and Sales headquarters based in Los Angeles, USA and the Operational Head Quarters based out of Basel, Switzerland.
As the IT Fleet Communication Manager, you will be responsible for the internet connectivity across the entire fleet. Your main task will be the monitoring, and maintenance of all VSAT/4G and WiMax Systems.
Viking Cruises was the first river cruising company providing free unlimited internet services and we extended this as well to our ocean fleet, where Viking became the pioneer in providing free unlimited internet to all our passengers.
This role will be located in Basel, Switzerland. Please note that we can only accept candidates who are eligible to work in Switzerland or are in possession of a relevant work permit.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform daily monitoring, verifying the availability of all communications devices onboard our vessels
• Coordinate maintenance tasks with our providers
• Continuous service improvement
• Researches communications tools
• Manages the budget for communications
• Monitors KPI’s and provides weekly feedbacks
• Monitors and support all satellite communication systems to ensure that the systems are operating to optimum performance
• Implement a multi-tier service infrastructure for internet access our ships
• Adjust / improve L7 bandwidth optimization
QUALIFICATION PROFILE
• You are an experienced ICT Manager
• You are a good project manager
• You are comfortable dealing with senior stakeholders and working autonomously
• You have experience working with VSAT/WiMax and Cellular Networks
• You know and understand the market
• You are eager to improve the guest experience onboard our ships
• You possess an associate degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
• You are a Certified Network Engineer (CCENT or similar)
• You have a minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role
• Maritime background would be preferred
• Very strong understanding of network infrastructure
• Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocol
• Network security knowledge and hands-on experience
• Experience with L7 traffic management
• Ability to troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewall, routers, switches, controllers
