Senior Project Manager (R&D Global Project management)


The purpose of this position is to autonomously lead a single complex project or multiple projects within a program/portfolio, from initiation and planning, through to execution, monitoring and closure. The role will be based at CSL’s Bern site and will report to the Director, Global R&D Early Development & Partnerships.


Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities:



  • Provide direct input into, and lead the development of project strategy including the evaluation of alternative development scenarios.

  • Apply strategic and business acumen to provide critical input into business planning processes to drive value within the portfolio.

  • Lead the Core Project Team (CPT) and actively participate at associated team meetings including expert teams and project strategy groups.

  • Oversee and facilitate collaboration with external partners to integrate services, technologies and capabilities.

  • Oversee and manage the operational aspects of third party alliances ensuring contractual obligations are adhered to.

  • Be involved in project-related commercial licensing/partnering/intellectual property activities.

  • Develop and manage the scope, budget and timelines of the project(s).

  • Secure functional resources for the project team.

  • Actively participate and lead any new processes and process improvement initiatives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Project Management function or the R&D division.


Qualifications & Experience:



  • An advanced degree in Life Science or Engineering, PMP certification, Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent would be considered advantageous.

  • 5+ years’ experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry (or where relevant a biomedical research organisation) in Early Development

  • Experience in the development of immunoglobulins and/or human plasma products would be a strong asset

  • 5+ years’ experience in project management, in initiation, planning, execution, monitor/control and closeout.

  • In depth knowledge in the drug development and manufacturing processes for pharmaceuticals (CMC, Non-Clinical, Clinical, Regulatory Affairs).

  • Experience in strategic planning and the ability to develop and evaluate alternative development scenarios and options for project management to drive value within the portfolio.

  • Experience working in global project teams, leading and motivating cross functional teams in a matrix management environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including a positive and constructive attitude and the ability to build effective relationships and teams. Negotiation and influential skills advantageous.

  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to effectively deliver project information and development strategies.

  • An easy and flexible manner when dealing with all levels of management.
