Operations Engineer

As an Operations Engineer, everything you do revolves around Mission Control! Your goal is to keep the outstanding quality and to continuously raise the effectiveness and efficiency. You achieve this not only through improving processes and procedures but by also keeping in mind that Operations is made up of people that are the most effective if they like coming to work.

You will solve smaller or bigger issues to ensure smooth operations, are the go-to person for questions from the engineers on duty, are responsible for creating the personnel schedule, oversee the extensive internal training program and optimize operational processes. You will also have the chance to integrate new services into the highly standardized and efficient operations concept and participate as we expand our operations to the US.

We expect you to bring the following skills to the table, as well as a high motivation to acquire new knowledge provided in coached training programs:    

• General knowledge of Unix and Linux operating systems


• Understanding of networking in general and the major internet protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL, SMTP, SSH, DNS, BGP, OSPF)


• Knowledge of network security concepts and practices. Core technologies: firewalls, web application firewalls, VPN networks, IDS and IPS, email security and remote access


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills


• Open-minded and committed team-player attitude


• Strong analytical, coordination and pragmatic problem-solving skills


• Solution-oriented thinking


• Desire to make a difference


• Fluency in German and English (spoken and written)


• ETH, university or FH degree in Computer Science or a related field


• Experience working in operations is a bonus

Open Systems will offer you interesting challenges in the dynamic and global environment of IT security. You will be in a work environment in which innovative solutions, rapid development times, creativity and open communication are practiced and continuously fostered. The pursuit of technical advancement is at the center of our attention. You will work at the headquarters in Zurich and will get the opportunity to work at the second Mission Control operations center in Sydney for a few months.
