We are currently looking for a dynamic and motivated individual as a Material Scientist  for our Advanced Materials division who will join the Specialty Components Team within the Global Product Innovation organization. The position is a full-time contract based in our Advanced Materials European HQ in Basel.


The Material Scientist will take the lead in the development of casting, adhesive and multi-purpose formulations for industrial applications supporting business growth opportunities across the globe. He will work in a multifunctional team and interact with stakeholders in different functions and regions. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for developing fundamental technical and scientific insights into the chemistry and physics of encapsulation materials.

This position will involve working with other scientists and may involve the direction and/or mentorship of technicians within the laboratory. The successful applicant should demonstrate strong collaborative and communication skills, as well as an attention to detail for task execution and project management.



  • Develop work hypothesis, design experiments and execute them to validate value proposition

  • Develop fundamental understanding of the interplay between physical and chemical contributions to observed phenomena

  • Exploit this understanding to overcome technical barriers to meet product requirement and specifications

  • Extract and analyze data streams to provide insight into material effects and interactions

  • Conduct literature search and patent monitoring to understand industry and technology trends

  • Contribute to the development of a science-driven innovation culture within the global organization

  • Support the definition and execution of innovation roadmaps by integrating molecular-scale material science into product requirements and specifications



  • Proactively look for opportunities to gain IP and create commercial advantage

  • Maximize the probability of success for projects by collaborating with other functions - e.g. product development, technical service, manufacturing, marketing



  • Ensure full compliance with safety, health and environmental guidelines according to site and company standards (active participation to safety meetings and periodic safety improvement plans)

    Requirements:




  • M.Sc.or Ph.D in polymer science or materials science with at least 2 years of experience in multi-material (organic-inorganic nanocomposite) R&D

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an industrial or academic R&D environment with a proven track record in following projects from science to demonstration

  • Deep understanding of the structure-property relationship in polymeric, hybrid and nano- materials for industrial applications

  • Understanding of organic chemistry and its implications in material science

  • Track record in identifying innovative solutions to scientific and technical problems

  • Natural leader with an entrepreneurial mindset, self-driven and highly motivated

  • Excellent oral presentation and written communication skills

  • Team player with excellent interpersonal, communication and project management skills associated with strong work ethics
