Position Purpose:



The Senior Data Hub Technical Specialist is part of the Data Hub team who partner closely with the Research and Early Development organizations and Product Development to provision molecular biomarker, genotype and clinical data for analytics. The Senior Data Hub Technical Specialist is responsible for the management of data sources including uploading, scheduled updates, maintenance and preparing data cuts. The Senior Data Hub Technical Specialist is responsible for providing timely access to data and supporting relevant documentation for data users (including standard reports) . He/She has in-depth knowledge of the Data Hub data sources and computing platform and collaborates closely with scientists and analysts to provide the right data in the right format for analysis. As well as supporting partners with data requests the Senior Data Hub Technical Specialist also performs computing platform maintenance and develops supporting tools.


Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities:



  • Manages the staging of incoming data, issue resolution with partners/vendors, loading of refreshes, communication on arrival of new data, scheduling data uploads.

  • Collaborates closely with Analysts and Scientists to provide data cuts meeting user and analysis needs. Also ensures knowledge of data is disseminated effectively throughout the group.

  • Point of contact for Development IT on maintenance of the server and of the analytic environment (opening, closing and archiving user folders and project files). Supports the implementation of Glide RWD computer platform.

  • Provides user support with activation and closing of accounts, logins, etc., including maintaining metrics of database use. Provides adhoc technical support as needed.

  • Supports governance to prevent misuse of data and provides a monitoring dashboard of data use across Roche functions.

  • Implements audit readiness and audit support activities.

  • Implements standards to improve efficiency and effectiveness and works with Informatics to introduce new technologies and tools. Proactively raises ideas and solutions

  • Responsible for fit for purpose training on access and use of Data Hub data sources for all users (including data sources)

  • Builds close working collaborations with Biometrics colleagues, Informatics and other PD functions and Affiliates.

  • Take a lead role on aspects of technical infrastructure or functional excellence initiatives as required.


Technical Requirements



  • BSc/M.S. or advanced degree in Computer Science, Biomedical or Clinical Informatics, Statistics, Mathematics or similar academic.

  • Experience in R/SAS, Python, SQL, managing and querying databases, knowledge of common medical coding, basic analytics and statistical analysis. Exposure and experience of using ETL tools (e.g. PowerCenter)

  • Can readily learn new software applications and techniques.


Experience and/or Competencies Required:



  • Experience managing healthcare data to an Industry, Academic or Research setting.

  • Knowledge of drug development (pre-clinical, clinical development and post-marketing) and experience with international regulatory and ICH GCP guidelines.

  • Experience with real world data or clinical trial data or molecular biomarker or genotype data

  • Knowledge and experience with data standards (CDISC, OMOP)

  • Familiarity with Big Data systems/platforms.

  • Strong understanding of data/information architecture principals.

  • Understanding of Drug Development and Healthcare environments.

  • Strong understanding of structured and unstructured data retrieval and management techniques.

  • Knowledge of relational database principals and corresponding query language skills (e.g. SQL, NoSQL).

  • Excellent communication skills; ability to negotiate successfully; strong influencing skills.

  • Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail. Thinks quickly under pressure.

  • Innovative thinker; open to new ideas; embraces and drives change.

  • Awareness of changing trends in industry.

  • Shows high level of initiative and business awareness.

  • Good knowledge of English in a business environment.
