Swisscontact is the business-oriented independent foundation for international development cooperation. Represented
in 36 countries with over 1400 employees, it promotes - since 1959 - economic, social and environmental development.


In Central-, East- and Southern Africa (Kenia, Tanzania, Uganda, Ruanda, Burundi, DRC and Mozambique), Swisscontact
implements projects for a broad variety of donors in three of its four core areas: skills development, SME promotion,
and financial services. In order to ensure successful project implementation in terms of client specifications and
achieving the expected impact; ensuring that the administration of all operations meet the internal quality requirements
as well as to managing and supporting the country offices, also in the acquisition of new projects for the further
development of our project portfolio in the region, we currently seek to employ a


Regional Director for Central-, East- and Southern Africa


Employment start: December 1st 2018 (negotiable)
Contract duration: 2 years with option of renewal
Place of work: Nairobi, Kenya
Disposition for frequent travelling within the region


Tasks



  • Strategic leadership of the region: development and updating of strategic medium-term plans incl. financial projections for the
    region in cooperation with the Country Directors.

  • Oversight and control of project implementation: ensuring quality and adherence to deadlines. Ensure and support project
    planning and reporting, content-related support, introduction of corrective measures for target deviations, organization of
    external evaluations, etc.

  • Line manage Country Directors according to the principles of Swisscontact.

  • Active contact with potential customers and partners in coordination with the national program management and the key
    account management department at the Head Office in Zurich


Requirements



  • Master in technical science (civil engineering) or in TVET, economy or equivalent;

  • At least 5 years of experience in managing projects and/or multi stakeholder initiatives, preferably in development cooperation
    in Sub-Saharan Africa;

  • Good knowledge of and practical experience in the use of methodologies related to skills development and/or entrepreneurship
    promotion and Monitoring and Results Measurement;

  • Private sector experience is an asset

  • Strong leadership skills and experience in coordinating interdisciplinary and intercultural project teams;

  • Capacity to elaborate concept notes and project proposals;

  • Excellent skills in English and German; Portuguese/Spanish and French as additional assets;

  • Ability to think analytically and systemically; strong in innovation and creativity;

  • Strong communication skills and team spirit, in an intercultural context.
