Job Description




Position
As IT Specialist you will join a global multi-site IT team which is responsible for all of the Company's IT infrastructure.
You will support a mixed infrastructure of both Windows (clients and servers) and Linux environments. Additionally, you will be involved in directly supporting and evolving the core infrastructure at the Headquarter and possibly more locations as well as improving the systems and IT processes throughout all u-blox sites. 
 
Tasks

  • Work autonomously on a day-to-day basis, monitoring and maintenance of the sites' IT infrastructure

  • Ensure the continued operation of local infrastructure – including VMWare environments, storage and VoIP systems

  • Manage local data storage and its continued availability

  • Monitor and manage the backup and recovery systems

  • Ensuring necessary sites' infrastructure maintenance contracts are in place

  • Maintain and continually review general IT security within the sites

  • Run diagnostic tools to resolve LAN, WAN, and other networking system issues

  • Manage software tools and OS updates to sites' systems and servers

  • Create and update of IT related documentation for systems and changes

  • Work closely with your colleagues in other u-blox locations to ensure alignment of all IT activities with other sites and existing IT Processes/Policies/Standards/Conventions

  • Involvement in site specific and global scope IT projects as part of the wider global u-blox IT Team

  • Manage purchasing for IT-related items and coordinate with external suppliers

  • Responsible for the local software licensing and ensure all users are compliant

  • Liaise with senior management with regard to the. budget and plan future IT expenditure

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of general IT subject areas with min. 5 to 7 years’ experience in a similar role. Experience of using and administering Linux is vital to this role

  • Due to the number of countries u-blox operates in you will need to have excellent communication skills both verbal and written, in English

  • German is a plus

  • Strong knowledge in Linux Operation System, Clustering in computing and simulation environments

  • Strong knowledge of handling networking infrastructure (including switches, firewall, site and client VPN connectivity and ISP internet connectivity)

  • Experience in operation of the backup and off site backup/disaster recovery systems

  • Good analytical, problem solving and time management skills

  • Valid work permit for Switzerland
