Internship 2018, CIO European Macroeconomics and UBS Investor Forum

Your role:


Are you solid as a rock when you’re juggling a lot of projects? Do you have strong analytical skills? We’re looking for someone like that who can:


• Actively help us research and produce one of our flagship publications, the Future of Europe.


• Support the project manager of the UBS Investor Forum in running the forum and managing relationships with leading investment houses in order to secure their participation.


• Define the key topics that should be debated at the Investor Forum, then after the discussion prepare summaries of the main macroeconomic and investment insights for the UBS’ Global Investment Committee


• Contribute to our analyses and recommendations for the Chief Investment Officer, the CIO Investment Office and the asset class teams


• Analyze and collect financial and macroeconomic data, create charts and excel-based forecasting tool/models and databases


• Work on mutually defined projects. Past projects encompassed developing several Excel and STATA-based models to forecast GDP growth, inflation and ECB rate decisions, creating a quantitative investment model, or testing a global economic model to run simulations and model economic shocks (software by Oxford Economics)


• Participate on various conference calls and experience from a global macro perspective how economic developments feed into asset allocation discussions

You'll be directly involved in day-to-day operations during your 6-month internship, gaining first-hand experience in the investment process of UBS Chief Investment Office Wealth Management from both a macro and investment standpoint.

Your team:


The European macro team is based in Zürich, London, Madrid and Milan. You’ll be working directly with the Head of the European macro team based in Zurich on a daily basis and will be exposed to all kind of issues related to European economics, politics, markets, etc. You also receive a proper entry training. This will allow you to maximize your experience as well as to build up a broad network in CIO (majority of UBS CIO is based in Zürich). Your will also work close with the CIO Head of Strategic Content and team which will allow you to advance your communication skills and have the opportunity to build a network across UBS.


Your expertise:


You need to have completed at least four semesters of your bachelor’s degree and have not yet completed your master’s degree. In particular, you have:


• at least four semesters of your bachelor's degree at a university or university of applied science, preferably with a focus on economics, econometrics, finance, business, political science or similar


• Fluency in English required (writing and speech), German or other languages as a plus


• a good command of Microsoft Office


• experience with high-level programming language and statistical modeling software know-how as a plus (like Bloomberg or statistical software such as STATA)


• Have a keen interest in financial markets, politics and economic issues


• Very good analytical and writing skills as well as quantitative and data mining skills


• Initiative, attention to detail, reliability, team-player
