The main tasks of this position consist of assisting Professor Laamanen in research, teaching and company projects. In addition, the associate will complete his or her PhD degree as a part of the appointment.



The chair of Professor Laamanen engages in research on strategic activity sequences, such as acquisition programs; strategic issue management; strategy processes and practices; management's cognition; and strategy execution. Professor Laamanen teaches Strategic Management courses in Master's, MBA and Doctoral Programs.



We are looking for a candidate who is motivated to support our Master and PhD courses. This includes the course preparation and support, coaching students, and helping with administrative work. In addition, we expect the candidate to engage full heartedly in project-related research tasks as well as the personal doctoral studies. The focus of the doctoral work should fit with the chair's research interests. Prof. Laamanen will supervise the doctoral work.
Applicants need to comply with the following requirements

  • Interest in conducting high quality research using quantitative and/or qualitative methods, participating in international conferences and publishing in premier Journals

  • Eligibility to St. Gallen's doctoral program (please check the admission requirements atwww.unisg.ch/de/Studium/Doktorat/ZulDoktoratsStufe.aspx) and directly with zulassung@unisg.ch

  • Master's degree in a related field (e.g. social sciences) with a final grade of 5.0 or higher (candidates who complete their Master's degree within the next few months may also apply)

  • Analytical skills, self-discipline, good collaborative skills, and the ability to work independently are important for a successful PhD project. Furthermore, the candidate should communicate easily and like the exchange with students

  • Excellent oral and written skills in English; in addition German skills are of advantage
