The Role

The Academic Content Director is responsible for all academic content production for adult products in EF

EdTech Academic and Content team. The Academic Content Director will work closely with the Kids Academic

Content, Editorial and Design Directors, the Vice President of Academic Product Development and key functional

leads and high-­level stakeholders to ensure that all produced materials are of the highest academic quality and

follow rigorously defined methodology and direction, and that they meet the needs of markets and end-­users from

an academic perspective. The Academic Content Director will lead academic content and assessment teams to

ensure content production is effective and efficient, both in terms of process and outcomes.

Short-­term Focus:

• Work with the VP Academic Product Development to refine the process for ensuring that content produced

by EF EdTech is of the highest academic quality and consistent with stated approach and principles.

• Maintain academic quality within the writing, editing and assessment teams by defining and ensuring clear

standards for creation and evaluation;; identifying, analysing and resolving issues with content creation;;

implementing process improvements and integrating those across other teams.

• Set the academic strategy for courses offerings. This will include, but not be limited to, methodology,

approach and standards for both online and offline self-­study and teacher-­led classes.

• Take responsibility for the creation of top-­quality course content for EF EdTech.

• Work with Product Owners and representatives of other business units, to ensure that products developed

meet the needs of the business and the end-­user, and that development of content is aligned with and

complementary to development of platform/delivery system/user experience.

• Build and develop a robust new content team within the new structure of EdTech, and drive the success of

the business through fast, flexible and flawless content production and final content.

Long-­term Focus:

• Cultivate adults academic content team and provide opportunities for professional growth within that team.

• Develop, maintain and share broad and up-­to-­date professional knowledge in contribution to setting product

strategy and direction.

• Set and achieve strategic goals in content production, as it relates to operations, course content

development and business development.

• Evaluate and advance existing course content across products.

• Identify and evaluate opportunities for new content, courses and/or course features within the existing

product suite and develop content to exploit those opportunities.

• Conceptualise and develop new lines of products for focusing on both blended learning and on purely online

teaching – both teacher-­led and self-­study.

• Develop and maintain effective communications practices to maintain strong relationship with stakeholders

and functional team leads across various global locations, to ensure a smooth overall product development

flow and successful projects.

Requirements:

• Diploma-­level ELT qualification (e.g. Cambridge DELTA, Trinity DipTESOL) or equivalent experience.

• Advanced degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Linguistics or Business.

• 5+ years’ experience in ELT instruction and/or school management.

• 5+ years’ experience in ELT publishing, content creation or test development.

• Experience managing teachers, writers and editors.

• Outstanding familiarity with standard references for the development of syllabuses, for example, the

Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and other Council of Europe publications.

• Experience in work on cross-­functional teams in a leadership role.

• Proven expertise in stakeholder management.
