The Research Unit Forest Dynamics explores the functional significance of forest diversity with respect to the ecology of managed and unmanaged forests and evaluates future forest development in temperate regions and high mountain systems. Technician in Quantitative Wood Anatomy (80%)You will be responsible for the accurate preparation of micro-sections of 500 increment cores and for the measurements of various wood anatomical traits using dedicated image analysis software. The work is part of the project GenWood, which aims to investigate the genomic basis of wood anatomical variation in Norway Spruce.
You possess a Master’s degree in forest ecology, climatology, geography, biology or in an equivalent field. Furthermore, you have strong skills in the preparation of anatomical micro-sections and assessment of wood anatomical traits, and are experienced in dendrochronology. Knowledge in tree-ring width measurements, cross-dating, and other tree-ring related approaches are an asset. You work structured, efficiently as well as independently and have a high level of team spirit and flexibility. You are fluent in German or English.
