Description:

We operate our own cloud infrastructure distributed across multi-tenant datacenters throughout Switzerland, with over 1 Petabyte of storage. This infrastructure is connected through a redundant network with a 24/7 NOC in Switzerland.

You will be responsible ensuring our infrastructure remains reliable and can scale quickly enough to match our growth. You will perform System and Network operation. This require work on-shift as well as outside working hour. You will be working both internally with the ProtonMail engineering team, and also with an external ISP that we have partnered with. As you will be working in an international environment, English fluency is mandatory.

Experience with the following are required:
Networking:

• Routing expertise: BGP (e.g. IPv4/IPv6, ECMP, Multi-homing, path tuning)


• Strong in LAN, WAN, DataCenter networks, MPLS


• Experience in VxLAN, EVPN forwarding, DCI


• 5+ years of proven track record of success, preferably in an ISP environment or large-scale data center environment


• NOC experience


• Proven experience in Arista, Cisco or Juniper routers/switches


• Netflow or SFlow analysis


• Network design and operation (Data Center and Internet layer)


• Network security and system hardening (e.g. Firewall, ACL, segmentation)


• Fine level knowledge of UDP/TCP protocols


• Extensive experience with network troubleshooting (L1 to L4)


• Experience in network scripting/programming in Perl or Python

Sysadmin:

• Solid understanding of RedHat derivatives (CentOS, RHEL, Scientific Linux, etc)


• Linux networking (e.g. VLAN, bridges, bonding, STP)


• Nagios, Ansible, ELK


• DHCP, DNS, RADIUS, TACACS+, SYSLOG, NTP


• Bird, ExaBGP, HAProxy, LVS


• Expert at debugging/customizing Linux system (building custom packages, kernel level tuning, recovery/rollbacks/upgrades, etc)


• Fluent in Python, SQL and/or shell scripting

Bonus points for:

• Experience in Data Center Network


• Extensive software engineering experience (could also work as a software engineer)


• Experience in Design pattern, Object Oriented programming, SQL Databases


• Well versed in security and with a good understanding of security best practices from both a network and systems point of view


• OpenVPN/IPsec/MACSec


• Ability to keep up in an extremely fast-paced environment


• Fluent in French or German will be appreciated


• Masters degree in a relevant field of study and/or scientific background


• Experience in OpenStack or Network/Systems automation


• Certification in the field of Network/Sysadmin/Security would be an asset

What you will be doing:

• Work in teams to deploy and maintain scalable and reliable data center networks


• Troubleshoot network, hardware, and Linux OS related issues


• Perform deep dives on technical issues within the DC


• Build and operate petabyte scale storage solutions


• Create and test documentation for the global data center knowledge base


• Assist with process improvements and best practices in data center operations


• Contribute to servers and network security


• Build high performance monitoring and self-healing solutions for both networks and servers


• Help to improve backup strategies and implement them


• Understand and be able to write software to improve automation and site reliability
