Description

Purpose of the job: 

To support the Head of Meeting Services (MS) in the effective delivery of the logistical aspects of meeting organisation and event management services in accordance with the Bank’s business requirements. 

Principal accountabilities: 



  • Support the Head of MS in implementing the unit strategy and objectives for the logistical aspects of meeting organisation and event management.

  • Manage a group of professionals within MS. Recruit, develop and manage staff, set objectives and manage performance.

  • Maintain effective contractual relationships with external service providers (hotels, caterers, transportation firms, airlines, travel agencies, etc) in order to ensure high-quality services and efficient resource management.

  • In accordance with the business objectives of MS, provide effective and efficient management of human and financial resources.

  • Contribute to the development of policies and standards in relation to the logistical aspects of meetings and events, and oversee their implementation.

  • Maintain effective information flow to the Head of MS, with other units in the Bank and within the unit.

  • Represent the Bank vis-à-vis guests and ensure their satisfaction.

Qualifications: 



  • University degree in business, marketing, hospitality services or related field.

Skills: 



  • Strong guest and customer orientation.

  • Knowledge of current best practice in corporate event and conference management.

  • Familiarity with international etiquette and protocol.

  • Ability to judge independently, apply common sense and use analytical skills.

  • High level of stress tolerance; remains calm in hectic environments.

  • Strong ability to prioritise and to manage under deadlines.

  • Reliability.

  • Proven ability to lead a team of professionals.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and German; very good language skills in another major language are advantageous.

Work experience: 

At least seven years of relevant experience and a clear record of achievement in the area of hospitality services, hotel management or conference management.

The BIS’s head office is located in Basel, Switzerland, with representative offices in Hong Kong SAR and Mexico City. We are able to recruit globally, regardless of nationality, and offer competitive employment packages. All new staff members are recruited on a fixed-term basis without expectation either of any contract renewal or conversion. The contract may however be extended or converted to an open-ended one at the end of the term, subject to organisational needs and individual performance.
